Disney ABC Television Group Artist Manager – Disney TV Animation in Burbank, California

The Artist Manager will be the second member to join the Artistic Management department at DTVA. This person will work alongside the Director of Artistic Management to build the department from the ground up – establishing the infrastructure, initiating new processes and creating the tools to support it.

The Artist Manager is responsible for partnering with Production, Studio Management and Recruiting to build robust and balanced preproduction teams (Art/story) for various projects within DTVA. This role will oversee staffing assignments for the artists within their group and serve as the main point of contact at the studio level for these artists. The Artist Manager will also forecast future resource needs with the ultimate goal of retaining and growing our talent.

Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with the Director of Artistic Management and VP of Technology to build functionality within our current Production Tools enabling our team to schedule and track artists throughout the entire studio.

  • Create and maintain staffing schedules on a global level for preproduction departments (Art and Story) showing current and future staffing plans for each artist. Flag areas of risk in terms of artist retention. Collaborate with Line Producers to bridge assignments between projects.

  • Work with Production and Studio Management to create holistic staffing plans for new shows. Strive to create a balanced team in terms of production/studio needs, artist skill sets/growth opportunities, and personality fits.

  • Partner with Recruiting to notify upcoming talent needs that can’t be filled by current employees, as well as skill sets required on future shows.

  • As necessary, collaborate with the Recruiting Manager and Hiring Manager to evaluate deal proposals for new and returning hires based on show budgets and compensation strategies set forth by Studio Management.

  • Partner with Line Producers to anticipate staffing changes and additional resource needs throughout the life of a project. When emergencies arise, help find resources that can be loaned to the show in need.

  • Meet with production teams and artists regularly to ensure consistent communication; serve as a liaison between the Artists, Production, and Studio Management.

  • Communicate with the artists about their start/end dates, upcoming opportunities, and transitions from one show to another.

  • Understand individual artist skills and interests. Help to guide artists through career growth and professional goals; lead honest, and sometimes difficult, conversations.

  • Partner with Production to identify areas of growth for artists. Collaborate with Enrichment & Training to provide classes that hone in on these areas.

  • Support Production and HR through employee relations and performance feedback.

  • Partner with and mentor Artist Coordinator in pursuit of department goals.

  • Create a positive environment that fosters the growth of employees and overall well-being of the studio culture; promote a positive and productive work environment.

  • Attend industry events, recruiting opportunities or school outreach trips as needed.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 5+ years of production and/or artist management experience in 2D/CG Animation, Visual Effects, and/or Video Game pipelines.

  • 2+ years of experience managing a team within a large scale creative pipeline.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Extensive knowledge of preproduction pipelines.

  • Familiarity with databases and asset management systems.

  • Outstanding customer service skills and ability to develop and foster relationships with internal stakeholders.

  • Must have strong leadership qualities with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor individuals; demonstrate ability to build consensus as well as resolve conflict.

  • Ability to define and execute new processes and workflows in an ever changing environment; demonstrate strategic and out of the box thinking.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as solid follow-through on multiple projects.

Required Education :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
